Single-phase Magic Box: how the diagram works

Do you already have a grid-tied solar system without a battery? The Magic Box lets you add storage with a dedicated Growatt, without changing your inverter. Here is how it works.

1. The problem it solves

Many grid-tied inverters have no battery input. The Magic Box, designed by Carmine, adds a dedicated Growatt with its own CEG battery next to the existing system. The battery connects to the Growatt, not to the inverter you already have.

2. How it works

  1. Produce: your system produces as usual. The meter with the CT clamp measures the exchange with the grid.
  2. Store: when there is surplus, the Magic Box has the Growatt charge the battery.
  3. Use: the battery powers the loads connected to the Growatt when configured. With the battery full, surplus can still go to the grid.

3. The CT clamp

The CT clamp goes on the cable coming from the main meter, with the arrow pointing towards the loads. If it is fitted the wrong way, the system misreads the grid exchange.

4. Blackouts and new panels

  • During a grid outage, Growatt and battery can power the prepared loads, within the available power and autonomy. The existing grid-tied inverter does not work during the blackout.
  • Up to 8 kWp of new panels can be connected to the Growatt SPF 6000 ES PLUS, on two 4 kWp MPPTs.

5. First of all

Compatibility concerns the storage system added alongside, not communication with your inverter. Power, phases, surplus measurement and configuration are checked with Carmine before buying; diagram and formalities are assessed for each system. Magic Box

6. The detailed wiring diagram

The block diagram helps you understand how it works. The detailed wiring diagram, with terminals and connections, is reserved for those who bought through Carmine Energia Gratis: write to Carmine with your CEG pre-order number. Wiring and testing must be done by a qualified electrician.

7. Frequently asked questions

Does it work with my inverter?

The Magic Box does not need to communicate with your inverter: the battery is managed by the dedicated Growatt. Your system is still assessed with Carmine before buying.

Do I have power during a blackout?

Yes, on the loads connected to the Growatt, within the battery's power and autonomy. Your grid-tied inverter stops, as it should.

Is there a three-phase version?

Yes, there is a three-phase Magic Box, but the configuration must be checked case by case with Carmine.

Where does the CT clamp go?

On the cable coming from the main meter, with the arrow towards the loads.
